Netflix released the trailer of Scoop earlier this evening, a dramatisation of the controversial interview of Prince Andrew with Emily Maitlis for BBC. The interview, where Andrew defended his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, sparked outrage and led to his withdrawal from royal duties in public. Scoop shows how the interview came into being.
Scoop stars Gillian Anderson as Maitlis and Rufus Sewell as Andrew. The film is based on the book 'Scoops: Soon to be a Major Netflix Film Starring Gillian Anderson' by Sam McAlister, the one who set up the BBC interview. McAlister published the book back in 2022 before optioning it for a film adaptation, with Voltage and The Lighthouse producing it.
The supporting cast of the film also includes Keeley Hawes as Andrew’s erstwhile private secretary, Amanda Thirsk, and Billie Piper as McAlister. A separate adaptation of the interview with different actors is also in development for Amazon Prime Video, starring Ruth Wilson and Michael Sheen.
