Cord Jefferson has won the Oscar in the Best Adapted Screenplay category for his work in American Fiction. It is a satirical film that revolves around the writer of a novel called My Pafology that serves as a takedown of racial stereotypes pandering to the white population.

American Fiction is based on Erasure, the 2011 novel written by Percival Everett, and features  Jeffrey Wright in the main role of the writer. Jefferson also helmed American Fiction, and it marked his screenwriting and directorial debut. He started his career as a journalist before taking to screenwriting.

The category included nominations for Barbie (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach), Oppenheimer (Christopher Nolan), Poor Things (Tony McNamara), and The Zone of Interest (Jonathan Glazer).
