Singer-actor Steve Lawrence, an enduring pop music personality for more than six decades, passed away this Thursday. He was 88. Acting as a spokesman for the Lawrence family, publicist Susan DuBow disclosed the news related to the singer's death. DuBow said that Lawrence was suffering from Alzheimer's disease complications.

Primarily a singer known for his performances in the traditional pop genre, Lawrence also made many appearances in films and TV shows. His most notable work as a film actor came in the form of a manager named Maury Sline in 1972's The Blues Brothers. When brothers Jake and Elwood Blues (John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, respectively) wanted funds to keep their childhood orphanage afloat, the two resorted to Lawrence's character to book a performance. Lawrence delivered one of its more memorable one-liners as he responded to the brothers' financial demand for the performance. He said, "Who do you think you are? The Beatles?" Lawrence also played the same role in its sequel, titled Blues Brothers 2000.

He is survived by his brother Bernie, son David, daughter-in-law Faye, and granddaughter Mabel.
