National Geographic and Amblin Documentaries are collaborating on the documentary about the making of Steven Spielberg's classic Jaws and the writing of Peter Benchley's horror best-seller. Benchley's wife and ocean conservation and marine policy advocate, Wendy Benchley, is also a part of this project.

The documentary film, which is timed to the 50th anniversary of Jaws (released in 1975), will be directed by Laurent Bouzereau. Having completed his nonfiction Faye, based on the career and legacy of Hollywood actor Faye Dunaway, Bouzereau has been roped in for the project. He wrote a book, Spielberg: The First Ten Years, which contains details about Jaws that came out of his conversation with Steven Spielberg.

The documentary will include footage and photography from the Benchley and Spielberg archives.

Made under Spielberg's banner, Amblin Documentaries and Nedland Media, the film is produced by Benchley and Laura A Bowling. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey from Amblin will executive produce the film, along with Nedland Media’s Bouzereau and Markus Keith and National Geographic’s Ted Duvall.
