Freaky Friday 2 goes on floors

Helmed by Indian-American filmmaker Nisha Ganatra, the film will see Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprising their roles from the 2003 original directed by Mark Waters

On Monday, Jamie Lee Curtis took to her official Instagram handle with photos and videos from the sets of Freaky Friday 2, announcing that the film has officially gone on floors. The much-anticipated sequel to the 2003 film Freaky Friday, the sequel is directed by Indian-American director Nisha Ganatra for Disney.

Freaky Friday's lead actors Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are returning to reprise their roles as mother and daughter in the upcoming sequel. Returning cast members also include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao. New cast members are Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons.

Ganatra will direct the sequel from a script by Jordan Weiss. Freaky Friday 2 will be produced by Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr. The sequel will reportedly see Lohan reprising her role as Anna, who now has a daughter of her own and will soon have a stepdaughter. The official description of Freaky Friday 2 reads, "As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess (Curtis) and Anna discover the lightning might indeed strike twice."

While the makers are yet to announce a release date for Freaky Friday 2 but it has now been confirmed that the film will hit theatres in 2025.
