Tamayo Perry, best known for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, passed away on Sunday following a shark attack in Hawaii. He was 49. BBC was the first publication to report the news. He had long been working as a lifeguard.

As per the Associated Press, Hawaii's emergency services and Honolulu Ocean Safety answered a call about a person who seemed to have sustained shark bite injuries on the North Shore stretch adjacent to Mālaekahana Beach in Oahu. Paramedics brought Perry to shore through jet ski, but he was soon pronounced dead. Honolulu Ocean Safety's acting chief Kurt Lager described Perry as a "lifeguard loved by all," according to the Associated Press. Posters warning residents of sharks were erected in the area after the attack, stated Honolulu Ocean Safety's officials.

Perry's other acting credits include Hawaii Five-O and Blue Crush. Perry is survived by his spouse, Emilia Perry.
