We had earlier reported that acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan would be writing directing, producing a new Exorcist film. Universal has now officially announced that the film is set to hit theatres on March 13, 2026.

This new film is a collaboration between Blumhouse and Morgan Creek and is described as a "radical new take" on the classic horror franchise whose first film released in theatres in 1973.

Details regarding the plot and the cast are kept under wraps. However, the makers have said that the new movie is not a sequel to any previous Exorcist films and will chart a new course for the legendary franchise.

The film will be produced by Flanagan's Red Room Pictures alongside his longtime collaborative producer Trevor Macy's Intrepid Pictures and Jason Blum for Blumhouse.

The new Exorcist film marks the fourth collaboration between Flanagan and Blumhouse, with their previous films being - Oculus (2013), Hush (2016), and Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016).
