Yeon Sang-ho, who is best known for directing 2016’s Train To Busan, is making his first English-language horror film.

Titled 35th Street, Yeon will write and direct the new action-horror film which will be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way and Korean production company WOW POINT. Details regarding plot or the cast in the film and a release date have not been announced by the makers.

Ryu Yong Jae, who is known for penning Money Heist Korea: Joint Economic Area, will be involved in the screenplay of 35th Street. Notably, this will mark the second collaboration between the writer-director duo who previously helmed Peninsula, starring Kang Dong Won, Lee Re, and Koo Kyo Hwan.

Yeon rose to global prominence in 2016 after releasing his first live-action zombie-thriller Train To Busan, which earned rave reviews from audience as well as critics. It grossed over $98 million worldwide and garnered a cult status over the years.

Its success paved the way for a sequel to the film titled Peninsula in 2020, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was released in July in limited territories during the pandemic. It grossed $42.7 million worldwide on a $16 million budget but received generally mixed reviews from critics.

Additionally, Yeon has directed films such as 2011’s The King of Pigs, 2013’s The Fake, 2018’s Psychokinesis, and 2023’s Jung_E. He also helmed all six episodes of Netflix’s Hellbound (which was based on a webtoon of the same name created by Yeon) and the recently released Parasyte: The Grey series, which also premiered on Netflix.
