Johnny Depp is returning to animated movies after voicing Victor Van Dort in Corpse Bride (2005) and Rango, Lars, Raoul Duke in Rango (2011). In the upcoming film Johnny Puff: Secret Mission, Johnny Depp voices a mysterious puffin by the titular name.

In Johnny Puff: Secret Mission, Depp plays a fedora-wearing puffin living in a town in the arctic who goes to battle with the evil Otto von Walrus. The movie is based on the animated Puffins series, which, as per Variety, consists of 250 five-minute episodes.

Depp has been providing the voice of one of the series’ puffins—Johnny Puff—since the series began in 2020. For the film, Depp has invented a language for his character. Speaking about the same, he said, "I thought it would be great to invent a language for the character. I thought the only move now is to mix my dialogue with the actual sound of a puffin.” The results? A sea parrot in a red bandana saying things like, 'Rama-lama-yama.'"

Johnny Puff: Secret Mission is set to be part of the larger Puffins Impossible (2021) universe. The film, produced by Iervolino & Lady Monika Bacardi Entertainment, released in US theatres on July 12.
