Jake Gyllenhaal's Apple TV+ thriller series Presumed Innocent has been renewed for season two.

Based on the eponymous novel by author Scott Turow, the eight-episode series stars Gyllenhall as a prosecutor Rusty Sabich who stands accused of viciously murdering his co-worker and former mistress Renate Reinsve. It forces Gyllenhaal's wife and their children to confront his infidelity.

It was adapted into a series by David E Kelly which also stars Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Elizabeth Marvel, Nana Mensah, Peter Sarsgaard, Lily Rabe, and Noma Dumezweni.

The renewal comes after the show became Apple TV+'s most-watched drama of all time. Presumed Innocent still has two more episodes before it ends its first season. It is still yet to be known who is the killer and what will happen to Gyllenhaal's character. While the seventh episode is set to premiere on July 17, the finale is scheduled for July 24.

Details regarding the plot of the upcoming second season are currently under wraps. However, the makers have described that it will revolve around a "suspenseful, brand-new case."

The creative team behind the show, including Gyllenhaal, David E Kelly, and JJ Abrams will return to co-produce the second season with Turrow serving as a co-executive producer.
