Universal Pictures announced that it would release Minions 3 in theatres on June 30, 2027, for Illumination Entertainment. Pierre Coffin, the director of Minions (2015) and the first three films in the Despicable Me franchise, comes back to helm the third part. It reunites Coffin with his Minions writer Brian Lynch. Coffin also lent his voice to these banana-obsessed creatures when they made their screen debut with 2010's Despicable Me: Minion Madness. Illumination Entertainment CEO Christopher Meledandri and Bill Ryan will produce the film.

The Minion films follow the quirky yellow creatures on their quest to find the most despicable villain for them to serve, leading to hilarious chaos along the way.

The last standalone Minions film is 2022's Minions: The Rise of Gru. They appeared as characters most recently in the fourth part of Despicable Me, which was released earlier this July and reportedly grossed over $250 million at the box office worldwide.
