Shelley Duvall, best known for playing Wendy, the tormented spouse of Jack Nicholson's character Jack Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's horror film The Shining, passed away earlier in the day at her Blanco residence. She was 75. Incidentally, she turned 75 on July 07 this year. According to reports, she died of diabetes complications. She is survived by Dan Gilroy, her husband since 1989, who told The Hollywood Reporter about the news of her passing.

"My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley," stated Gilroy.

Filmmaker Robert Altman's staff discovered Duvall as a teenage protege while she was attending college in Houston and made her undergo a screen test. Later, she made her acting debut in 1970's Brewster McCloud, directed by Altman. Ten years later, she appeared and sang in Altman's Popeye adaptation, starring Robin Williams.

Her last film appearance came in 2002's Manna From Heaven.
