We had previously reported that comedian Wanda Sykes is headlining an upcoming drama film titled Undercard. The film has currently begun principal photography in Puerto Rico for Catalyst Studios.

Tamika Miller is directing this upcoming feature film based on a screenplay she wrote with Anita M Cal. The plot follows a Cheryl “No Mercy” Stewart (Sykes), a two-time former boxing champion and recovering alcoholic who, after abandoning her son Keith (Bentley Green) when he was only six, reunites with him to coach him to tackle the biggest fight of his career.

Undercard also stars William Stanford Davis, Xavier Mills, Estella Kahiha, Berto Colon and Roselyn Sanchez.

The movie is expected to be on the lines of Raging Bull, Million Dollar Baby and Creed, but the story will be told through the eyes of the trainer.

Apart from playing the lead role, Sykes also serves as an executive producer with Kim Coleman as co-producer. Veteran producer Anne Clements along with local producers Frances Lausell and Andres Ramirez are overseeing production in Puerto Rico.
