Recently, we reported that Selena Gomez will be seen as superstar singer, Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic based on her 2013 memoir Simple Dreams. The latest update is that the biopic will be directed by David O Russell.

James Keach and Ronstadt’s longtime manager John Boylan are co-producing the film, which is currently in pre-production. Details regarding additional casting and release dates are still kept under wraps.

Ronstadt is a country, rock 'n' roll and Latin music legend, with her 1970s albums Heart Like a Wheel and Simple Dreams reaching critical and commercial success and showcasing her versatility across genres.

Throughout her career, she has won 11 Grammys, and she was honoured by both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

In 2011, Ronstadt announced her retirement, later revealing she was no longer able to sing due to her progressive supranuclear palsy, which was originally mistaken for Parkinson's.

An Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and writer, Russell is known for Silver Linings Playbook (2012), and American Hustle (2013), among other films. He last helmed Amsterdam in 2022, which starred Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, Mike Myers, and Taylor Swift among others.
