The makers of director Jonathan Entwistle's Karate Kid: Legends dropped the film's trailer on Tuesday.
The film's trailer shows Li Fong (Ben Wang) finding it hard to fit into his new life in New York with his mother. He soon finds that his Kung Fu skills aren't enough, which makes his teacher, Mr Han (Jackie Chan), introduce Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), the original Karate Kid. Li equips and merges both skills in the martial arts contest. The trailer also has a tribute to Sensei Miyagi (Pat Morita), the wise and unorthodox karate master who teaches the martial art to Daniel LaRusso in the original Karate Kid film in 1984.
The official logline of the film reads, "After a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn't want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition—but his skills alone aren't enough. Li's kung fu teacher Mr Han (Jackie Chan) enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown."
Entwistle directs the film, which also stars Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley and Ming-Na Wen, with Rob Lieber's screenplay.
Karen Rosenfelt is producing the film for Sony Pictures. Karate Kid: Legends is releasing in theatres on May 30, 2025.
