Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has continued its strong box office run on its first Friday, taking its worldwide gross past Rs 200 crore within two days of release. The Nelson directorial has maintained a sizeable theatrical turnout after its opening-day surge, even as its collections registered a decline on Friday.
On Day 2, October 16, Jailer 2 collected Rs 41.85 crore gross in India, taking its two-day domestic gross to Rs 112.10 crore. Its India net collection currently stands at Rs 95.30 crore, while the film has earned Rs 97 crore from overseas markets. This takes its worldwide gross collection to Rs 209.10 crore across two days, according to the reported box office figures.
The film opened with Rs 70.25 crore gross in India on Thursday, followed by Rs 41.85 crore on Friday, a drop of approximately 40.4 percent. Its occupancy also dipped from 55.4 percent on Day 1 to 48.2 percent on Day 2, with the film recording 13,157 shows on Friday compared with 16,599 on its opening day. Despite the weekday decline, the film has retained a strong hold across its second day.
Tamil Nadu remains the film's biggest domestic market, contributing Rs 40 crore to its two-day gross. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have contributed Rs 23 crore, followed by Karnataka at Rs 21 crore and Kerala at Rs 20.05 crore. The rest of India has added Rs 8.05 crore. On Friday alone, Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 16.25 crore, while Kerala added Rs 7.35 crore and Karnataka Rs 6.50 crore.
The overseas market has also played a significant role in Jailer 2's opening, contributing Rs 97 crore to its worldwide gross so far. With the film already past Rs 200 crore worldwide, its performance over the weekend will determine how much further it can build on its strong opening. Saturday and Sunday collections will be particularly important in assessing whether it can sustain the momentum generated by its first two days.
In the sequel, Rajinikanth is joined by Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Hrithik Roshan, SJ Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi, Jackie Shroff, Apeksha Porwal, Mithun Chakraborty, and Hakkim Shah, among others. The story follows Rajinikanth's character former jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, who leads a peaceful life at a supermarket in the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. However, the emergence of an old enemy shatters Muthuvel's peaceful existence, making him revert to his old aggressive measures to protect not just family but also his legacy.
