A while ago, Ballerina distributor Lionsgate dropped the first poster for the Ana de Armas character from the John Wick spinoff film. Len Wiseman directed the film from a Shay Hatten screenplay. Set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film features Ballerina as she undergoes training to be an assassin in the Ruska Roma traditions.
The third John Wick film, which introduces Ballerina, features Unity Phelan in the role. However, since Ballerina is a standalone film featuring the character in a full-length role, the makers seems to have cast Ana de Armas, considering her greater recognition and potential.
The Ballerina cast also includes the late Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Further, the legendary Ian McShane, and John Wick star Keanu Reeves also play small roles in the film.
Ballerina comes under the larger John Wick franchise, which Chad Stahelski oversees alongside producers Erica Lee and Basil Iwanyk. The franchise also includes the upcoming John Wick: Under The High Table series, which reunites Stahelski with his frequent collaborator Reeves.
Meanwhile, Ballerina is scheduled for a June 6, 2025, release in theatres.
