Prime Video revealed today that the eight-episode-long Australian version of The Office will premiere on the streamer on October 18. At the same time, it unveiled an image giving a look at Felicity Ward's character in the show. It marks the first time a female actor plays the lead in the history of The Office.
The star of Wakefield, The Inbetweeners 2, and Time Bandits, Ward plays Hannah Howard, who heads the packaging company Flinley Craddick. When Hannah learns that her branch is closing, forcing everyone to work from home, she starts to make promises that she cannot keep to ensure that her “work family” stays together. The rest of the staff endures her out-of-the-box ploys even as they struggle to meet impossible targets.
The guest cast of The Office comprises Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, Josh Thomson, Jonny Brugh, Susan Ling Young, Raj Labade, Lucy Schmidt, Zoe Terakes, Pallavi Sharda and Claude Jabbour, with Susie Youssef, Justin Rosniiak, Carlo Ritchie, Rick Donald and Chris Bunton. The show hails from BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand, Bunya Entertainment, and Amazon MGM Studios. Julie De Fina and Jackie van Beek developed the series, and they act as executive producers alongside Kylie Washington.
This is the thirteenth version of the so-called 'workplace mockumentary' show. The original BBC series starred Ricky Gervais as David Brent. NBC aired the US version, starring Steve Carell, for nine seasons. Other adaptations were broadcast in France, Germany, Canada, and more.
