Actor Ángel Salazar, who played Chi Chi in the Al Pacino starrer gangster drama Scarface, has passed away at one of his friends' house in Brooklyn. Salazar was 68 years old. The actor's longtime friend and representative Ann Wingsong confirmed the news of his death. A cause of death has not yet been revealed, but Wingsong disclosed that Salazar had heart health problems.
Salazar has over 50 roles in his career spanning four decades, but he is most popular for playing the sidekick to Pacino's character Tony Montana in Brian De Palma's Scarface. In one of its memorable sequences involving a chainsaw, Chi Chi saves Montana's life.
His other popular roles include Rico in the Tom Hanks starrer Punchline and Walberto in the Pacino starrer and De Palma directorial Carlito's Way.
Recently, before his passing, he was playing Chi Chi again in filmmaker Eric Spade Rivas' The Brooklyn Premiere, which reunited him with Scarface star Manolo Sanchez (Steven Bauer).
