Filmmaker David Lynch has been making headlines for the past few days over his statement in a recent interview, which got construed as though Lynch has decided to call it quits.

Lynch, on his X handle, updated a clarification post for some of his misunderstood statements in the Sight & Sound magazine interview. He said except that he has emphysema, he is in excellent shape.

He wrote in his statement, "Yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco - the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them - but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema. I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern."

In his Sight & Sound interview, the Wild at Heart creator said that since he is diagnosed with emphysema and due to COVID fears, if he has to direct a film in the future, he has to do it remotely. Due to his ill health, he is homebound, and he can only walk a short distance before he runs out of oxygen.

Lynch is yet to work on a feature film after Inland Empire (2006). In the meantime, he had worked on several shorts and his popular television series, Twin Peaks: The Return.

In a recent interview, he also said he had pitched to Netflix an animation project called Snootworld, which he began working on two decades ago with Caroline Thompson. The streamer, however, turned down Lynch's offer.
