Writer-director Francis Ford Coppola released the first-look poster for his upcoming film Megalopolis on Instagram earlier today. The poster shows Adam Driver's character looking at the horizon through a lens beside Nathalie Emmanuel. Visible in the background of the two actors are the edifices of New York City soaring to the sky. Megalopolis is set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival next month, where it will run for the prestigious Palme d'Or recognition.

It has been Coppola's passion project for a long time now, and reports over French distributor Le Pacte's involvement in the project have reduced the recent uncertainty over its future. The release of the first-look poster offers further hope to viewers eagerly waiting for a film from the maker of masterpieces such as the two Godfather films and Apocalypse Now. The director has been on a hiatus since 2011's Twixt.

The film is about an architect (Driver) who wishes to build a retro-futurist version of NYC after a catastrophe. Coppola's references for the project include HG Wells' speculative sci-fi literature, Roman history, September 11 attacks, and many other events.

Besides Driver and Emmanuel, the film stars Zendaya, Shia LaBeouf, and Grace VanderWaal. Coppola is also one of the co-producers of the sci-fi drama, with the other one being Michael Bederman.
