Ready or Not directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin are ready for their horror film's sequel — and they said that the new script is a "masterpiece".
The creative team, which is comprised of directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, along with their producer partner Chad Villella, were doing the rounds for their next slice of housebound-horror, the vampire flick Abigail, when they gave Entertainment Weekly an update on Ready or Not 2.
Speaking about the film Gillett explained, "It’s getting figured out." "That is what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening. That movie is truly the love of our creative lives in a lot of ways."
Released in 2019, Ready or Not was one of the best horror films of the late 2010s. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, it stars Samara Weaving in the lead role as a young bride who is violently hunted by her spouse's wealthy family as part of a wedding night ritual.
It received positive reviews from critics, who praised the performances of the cast, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett's direction, and screenplay. The film was a box office success, grossing $57.6 million worldwide.
