'Born without a drop of nobility in his blood'; Mufasa gets an origin story

Trailer of the Mufasa: The Lion King was screened at the CinemaCon event by director Barry Jenkins at the Caesars Palace Colosseum.

The trailer video shows the origin story of Mufasa who emerges as the king of the jungle. At the event director Jenkins said he was fascinated by watching "these complex people dealing with complex emotions," once he got the script.

The trailer has Rafiki saying in a voice-over, “This is the story of a lion who as born without a drop of nobility in his blood.” The glimpse shows the wilderness where Simba has a good time giving a bad time to hippos and crocodiles, while Mufasa's power gets challenged by another pack of lions. The film is a follow-up of Jon Favreau's The Lion King (2019), which almost made $1.7 billion worldwide.

Cast of Mufasa: The Lion King, penned by Jeff Nathanson, includes Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner. The film is produced by Jenkins' Pastel with Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak under the banner of Disney.

Global release of the film is likely to begin on December 20.
