Craig Gillespie's representatives are negotiating with the makers of Supergirl to land him a director's role in the film from DC Studios, according to a Deadline report. Gillespie is known for films such as I, Tonya and Cruella. Earlier this year, we also reported that Milly Alcock landed the titular role in Supergirl.

The film is an adaptation of Tom King's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic books. Writer Ana Nogueira is doing the big screen adaptation.

At a recent press conference, DC Studios' CEO James Gun said, “We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing (sic).”

Gunn's Superman is now under production in Georgia, with a July 11, 2025, release in mind. He is producing Supergirl alongside Peter Safran, and Deadline also reported that Chantal Nong is serving as its executive producer.
