The trailer of Disney's newest short film, Once Upon A Studio was released on the occasion of the studio's centennial celebrations. The animated short film is a tribute film, that the filmmakers describe as a love letter to the studio, its fans and artists.
The trailer starts by showing the lobby of Disney's animation building in live-action as young employees exit the building. They're seen chatting with Disney legend Burny Mattinson, who joined the studio in 1953 when he was just a teenager and stayed until his death this year.
Then we see the animated Tinker Bell going up to a painting of Mickey Mouse, bringing him and Minnie to life. They're then joined by a list of legendary Disney characters, both hand-drawn and computer-animated including 101 Dalmations, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen and Moana. Asha, the protagonist of Disney's upcoming Wish voiced by Ariana DeBose, also makes an appearance.
Voice actors including Paige O’Hara (Beauty and the Beast’s Belle), Dwayne Johnson (Moana’s Maui) and Josh Gad (Frozen’s Olaf), almost 40 of them, have returned to voice their respective characters for this project. While AI has not been used to voice any characters, a few new voice actors have also joined the production for classic characters.
The upcoming animated short, Once Upon A Studio is all set to premiere on ABC on October 15. It will be released in theatres alongside Wish, which is slated to hit theatres on November 22.
