André Holland, Kate Mara, Zazie Beetz and Stephen McKinley Henderson are all set to feature in the upcoming psychological thriller, The Dutchman, based on the Obie Award-winning play by Amiri Baraka. The adaptation recently landed a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.

Andre Gaines is directing the film from a script penned by Qasim Basir. An Emmy-nominee, Gaines is known for Showtime's 2021 documentary The One and Only Dick Gregory. The production for The Dutchman is all set to begin in New York City on September 25.

The Dutchman revolves around a well-to-do Black man who encounters a fascinating white woman. They match their wits in a cat-and-mouse chase, which is rather sexualised, leading to a violent conclusion.

Amiri Baraka's play was first presented in March 1964, at the Cherry Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village, New York City. Later, it was adapted into the 1966 film Dutchman, starring Shirley Knight and Al Freeman Jr, which went on to receive a lot of critical acclaim.
