Penelope Cruz to star The Days of Abandonment adaptation

Actor Penelope Cruz is set to star in the English adaptation of Italian author Elena Ferrante’s The Days of Abandonment.

The Days of Abandonment will be set in America, as opposed to the original Italian setting and will be helmed by Isabel Coixet. The actor is set to portray the role of a writer who has to take care of her two children following her husband's abandonment for another woman.

The upcoming film is backed by Lotus production of Raffaella and Andrea Leone’s Leone Film Group, Penelope under Moonlyon and Edu Cruz and Marco Perego via their Nimoa Entertainment. The film's screenplay is by Laurence Coriat.

Meanwhile, Penelope's latest film Ferrari, premiered at the Venice Film Festival, starring Adam Driver.
