A three-part documentary series about the life and assassination of music legend John Lennon will soon be available on Apple TV+.
Dubbed John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial and narrated by Hollywood star Kiefer Sutherland, the documentary is billed as the "most thoroughly researched examination" of the 1980 assassination of The Beatles leader.
In addition to previously unreleased photos of the crime scene and rare interviews with eyewitnesses, it will go into Mark David Chapman's investigation and conviction as John Lennon's killer.
"The production was granted extensive Freedom of Information Act requests from the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole and the District Attorney's office; and the series includes exclusive interviews with eyewitnesses – speaking for the first time — along with some of Lennon's closest friends, revealing shocking details of Lennon's tragic murder."
"John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial also features interviews with Chapman's defence lawyers, psychiatrists, detectives and prosecutors," a press release issued by the streaming service stated.
Chapman's story was dramatized in 2005 as a film titled Chapter 27. It featured Jared Leto. Also on Thursday, a track recorded by Lennon before his death was completed with the help of AI by his bandmates Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. It was released as the Beatles' final new song.
The series is directed by Nick Holt and Rob Coldstream. It is produced by the Emmy Award-winning team at 72 Films.
The release date of the docu-series hasn't been announced.
