A new trailer of Wonka, the upcoming film starring Timothee Chalamet as the famous chocolatier Willy Wonka, was released by the makers on social media on Thursday. The film is slated to release on December 15.
The new trailer begins with a conversation between Wonka and Oompa Loompa, played by Hugh Grant as they exchange a light-hearted chat. While the trailer also shows how Wonka, in his own quirky and eccentric way rises being a famous chocolatier, he also earns the wrath of his competitors. Having a whimsical and musical flavour, the trailer promises a concoction of myth, colour, and deliciousness.
A prequel to the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka is helmed by Paul King with a script he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby.
As Timothee essays the eponymous character, the rest of the cast includes Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Jim Carter, Matt Lucas, and Natasha Rothwell, among others.
The 1964 novel is authored by Roald Dahl, and tells the story of Willy Wonka, a renowned chocolatier who gained worldwide fame for his creative chocolate and candy-making techniques. The book was previously adapted on screen in 1971 as Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, where Gene Wilder essayed the role of Willy Wonka, and in 2003 as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where Johnny Depp played the chocolatier.
