Earlier, we reported that a live-action adaptation of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon is in the works. The latest update is that Mason Thames, who is best known for his portrayal as  Finn Blake in horror, The Black Phone (2021) and  Nico Parker, who shot to fame as Sarah Miller in the recent hit series The Last of Us (2023) has tapped to play the iconic characters from the animation, Hiccup and Astrid respectively.

The film will be written and directed by Dean DeBlois, who has directed all the films in the series, including How to Train Your Dragon (2010), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019). All three films have been nominated for Best Animated Feature in the Academy Awards.

The film series revolves around the adventures of an eccentric teenage Viking, Hiccup, who stumbles across an injured dragon one day in the mythical Viking village of Berk. Hiccup names the dragon Toothless, and the pair form an unbreakable and iconic bond throughout the series. Astrid, the female lead in the film, initially dislikes dragons but eventually develops a bond with them and becomes Hiccup's partner.

Meanwhile, Mason Thames has earlier appeared in the  Apple TV+ series  All Mankind. The fifteen-year-old actor will next be seen in an upcoming comedy, Incoming and adventure-thriller Boys of Summer.

Nico Parker made her acting in the 2019 film Dumbo. The actor will next be seen in an upcoming pic titled Suncoast.
