Warner Bros. released the first trailer of their upcoming sequel Meg 2: The Trench, on Tuesday. Jason Statham is back to reprise his role as Jonas Taylor, a rescue diver who has deadly encounters with prehistoric creatures, due to destiny. The sequel is set to release 5 years after the first film.

The sequel has drawn its ideas from Steve Alten's 1999 novel The Trench. After learning about the Megalodon's survival during the events of the first story, the Statham character is now entirely focused on studying the dinosaur in that book. Jonas never could have imagined that he would also encounter a Kronosaurus, a short-necked dinosaur with the ability to survive in the water. It is unclear what other historical monsters might appear in the series or whether Taylor will have the means necessary to protect everyone from them.

Sienna Guillory, Cliff Curtis, and Shuya Sophia will be seen along with Jason Statham in Meg 2: The Trench. The film will hit theatres on August 4.
