We earlier reported that the filming for Mean Girls Musical, the musical revival of the 2003 original Mean Girls, had commenced.

The latest update is that Jon Hamm is reportedly part of the film. He is said to play Coach Carr, the sex education teacher. Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne will be directing Mean Girls Musical with a screenplay from Tina Fey. Meanwhile, Mean Girls is adapted from Rosalind Wiseman's book Queen Bees and Wannabes. It follows Cady Heron (originated by Lindsay Lohan), a teenager who recently moved back to the States, where she is thrust into the complex and messy dynamics of high school. Soon, Cady finds herself swept into the popular clique of the school, The Plastics, after developing a crush on Aaron Samuels, the ex of head Plastic Regina George (Rachel McAdams). What started as an infiltration mission soon takes Cady down the path of becoming a full-blown Plastic herself.

The film stars Angourie Rice as Cady, Fey as Ms Norbury, Tim Meadows as Principal Duval, Renée Rapp as Regina George, Busy Philipps as Regina's mother, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis Ian, Jaquel Spivey as Damian Hubbard, Avantika as Karen, Bebe Wood as Gretchen and Jenna Fischer as Mrs Heron.
