Jonathan Krisel to direct Detective Pikachu sequel

Jonathan Krisel has been roped in to direct the second instalment of Detective Pikachu, Deadline reported. Krisel is known for directing the Portlandia TV series. The upcoming sequel's screenplay will be written by Chris Galletta. He has written the 2019 indie film The Kings of Summer. It may be noted that Detective Pikachu was a mystery fantasy comedy film directed by Rob Letterman. It was loosely adapted from the 2016 video game of the same name.

It may be noted that the first Detective Pikachu starred Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the titular Pokemon Pikachu. According to reports, Reynolds will reprise the same role in the sequel as well. The first Detective Pikachu opened to positive responses and garnered over $430 million at the box office.
