Caballo Films, known for producing The Beasts and Riot Police, are developing a fiction series adaptation of the non-fiction work El Proxeneta by Mabel Lozano.

Creator-writers Isabel Peña and Eduardo Villanueva are part of El Proxeneta, which is a deep dive into the growth of prostitution in Spain into an organised crime on a large scale. The series will be helmed by Pilar Palomero.

Having gone through eight editions, El Proxenata published in 2018 by Editorial Alrevés in Spain, won the Rodolfo Walsh Award for best non-fiction book.

The book is a first-person account of a powerful man, who was once a kingpin in the prostitution industry. Nicknamed El Músico,  this illiterate pimp increased his business into a branch of 12 macro-brothels and 1,700 prostitutes, brought from abroad to Spain.

The series will be narrated from not only the perspective of El Musico but also another Colombian sex slave Claudia as well as a police detective who dedicated his whole career to bring El Músico to justice.
