Carrie Fisher's last film Wonderwell gets release date

CE Features

Late actor Carrie Fisher's final film Wonderwell is set to release on June 23 after having a limited theatrical run in the US.

Directed by Vlad Marsavin, the film will also feature singer Rita Ora, Nell Tiger Free, Sebastian Croft and Kiera Milward. The upcoming film will be a coming-of-age fairy tale which is set against the backdrop of modern day Italy. It centres on Violet, a 12-year-old and her journey in discovering the world.

The filming for Wonderwell was completed six weeks before Carrie died in December 2016. However, it faced delays due to the pandemic and work in visual effects.

Speaking to Deadline, the director was quoted as saying, "The journey we have taken as filmmakers with this movie, has been as perilous as that of the movie itself. from filming to screen it has taken us seven years. The visual effects on a movie of this magnitude takes time, but we were challenged with Covid lockdowns and of course the passing of our wonderful Carrie Fisher. Now is the perfect time to share her magical on screen moments as Hazel.”

Wonderwell is backed by Fred Roos, with screenplay by William Brookfield. The music is composed by William Ross.
