We had earlier reported that James Cameron's Titanic had been credited as the third highest-grossing film of all time after its re-release, surpassing Cameron's recent release  Avatar: The Way of Water. But things have been changed the other way around, where Avatar: The Way of Water has outrun Titanic at the global box office with $2.243 billion to be at the third position.

Meanwhile, Cameron has entered a solo club where he is the only filmmaker in history to direct three films, each grossing $2 billion or more globally. The auteur has also been bestowed with another credit; a filmmaker who has helmed three of the four top-grossing films in history.

Titanic, after its re-release, earned $2.242 billion globally.

The others in the top list include Cameron's original Avatar ($2.92 billion), followed by the Russo brothers' Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion)
