DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have announced that Superman: Legacy will premiere on July 11, 2025.

The DC heads have also announced that Superman: Legacy will kick off chapter 1 of the new DCU which is titled Gods and Monsters. The film will serve as something of an official reset to the universe, as any projects that follow it will be consistent with stories and characters. Gunn is currently writing the film but isn’t yet confirmed to direct it.

The previous Superman (Henry Cavill), who started his tenure in 2013’s Man of Steel, has hung up his cape for good and won’t be returning as Superman for Gunn’s new film. According to reports, the casting process has not yet begun for the new Superman.

Superman: Legacy is the first film of the new slate of DCU projects to get a release date and will be released ahead of The Batman Part 2, which is set to come out on October 3, 2025.
