Director Rob Reiner made his directorial debut with the music mockumentary film This is Spinal Tap in 1984. Nearly forty years later, he will be helming a follow-up to his cult classic.

According to reports, production for the sequel will begin in February. The film will feature legendary musicians like Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Garth Brooks.

Actors Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer will reprise their roles for the sequel as members of the fictional band. Reiner himself will play the documentarian Martin "Marty" DeBergi. The sequel is said to follow the style of Martin Scorsese's concert film, The Last Waltz.

Following the success of This is Spinal Tap, Reiner went on to direct films like Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men. He also acted in films like Sleepless in Seattle and The Wolf of Wall Street.
