Greta Gerwig's most celebrated directorial of the year, Barbie, which is getting commercially bigger by the day, is all set to release in the IMAX format. The film will hit IMAX theatres on September 22 and the theatrical run will last for a week.
The new release of the film will also feature a new post-credits footage, that is personally altered by Greta. Barbie is inspired by the Mattel doll of the same and follows the stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie) living in Barbieland which is matriarchal. As she visits the real world following an existential crisis, she is horrified by the patriarchy present among humans. The film stars Ryan Gosling as Ken.
The film features an ensemble cast, including Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, Will Ferrell, Dua Lipa, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Connor Swindells, Ariana Greenblatt, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, Ana Cruz Kaye, and Jamie Demetriou.
Greta co-wrote the film along with Noah Baumbach. The music for Barbie is composed by Alexandre Desplat, who earlier collaborated with the director in the 2019 film Little Women.
