The fifth instalment in the Evil Dead franchise recently released to rave reviews. The film was directed by Lee Cronin, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. The cast of the film includes Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, Nell Fisher, Richard Crouchley, Mirabai Pease, and Anna-Maree Thomas.

Based on characters created by Sam Raimi, the film also had a voice-only cameo by the star of the original film Bruce Campbell. Opening to critical and commercial success, Evil Dead Rise went on to collect $40 million USD on its opening weekend.

When asked about plans for a sequel, the director said that while he is cautious of not wanting to bait the audience for a sequel, he is excited about the potential for the story and hopes to return to the franchise. He added, “Somebody that survives picks up the chainsaw at the end and where they might go," explained Lee. "There's also the aftermath in this building and who encounters that? And I've often thought, 'What happens when the cleanup crew shows up?"

Cronin hints at returning to the roots of the franchise when he said, “Because of the opening and the closing, there's that continuation of how this evil has a gate. That brings us back into that forest context, which excites me because I love that I broke the mold, but wouldn't it be fun now if I went back to the cabin in the woods. It could be a cool journey.”
