The script for the upcoming sixth season of The Crown was forced to be changed by the writers following the exit of actor Gillian Anderson, who portrayed the role of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the show.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the actor exited the show, after which the show writers had to bring some modifications.

"Gillian's portrayal of Thatcher was met with global critical acclaim and she was a huge asset to The Crown. It had been hoped she would be able to make an appearance in scenes around the golden wedding but sadly that has not been the case due to scheduling issues," a source was quoted by The Sun.

"As ever with the series, clever scripting will mean viewers will be none the wiser. It's been another blow for producers in what's already been a fairly dogged production."

Gillian won an Emmy and Golden Globe for her performance in the show.
