Oscar-nominated Austin Butler has joined the cast of the upcoming epic crime drama titled, City On Fire. The film is based on the first out of the trilogy of Don Winslow's novels.

Butler is expected to be seen as Danny Ryan, an aspiring New England gangster, who battled rival gangs, the local police and the federal government and matures from a street thug to a ruthless gang leader.

In the book, which spans decades and is based on the epics of Ancient Greek mythology, a modern-day Helen of Troy incites a full-scale conflict between the two dominant crime families of New England—one Irish and one Italian. The follow-up to City on Fire, City of Dreams, will be released later this month. City in Ruins, the third and final book in the trilogy, will soon be released.

Butler, David Heyman, and Shane Salerno will produce City on Fire. Makers are yet to reveal details about the production and release of the film.
