Ryan Reynolds broke the internet in the wee hours of Wednesday with the announcement of Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine. Jackman will be reprising his beloved superhero in Reynolds' third Deadpool film, which marks his first in the MCU.

The announcement was made with a video posted by Reynolds on his social media profiles. He begins addressing the viewers with an apology for missing Disney's D23 expo and later goes on to explain that the process of making Deadpool 3 has pushed him into a zone of deep introspection, with his brand of humour intact. He then quickly reveals that he hasn't made any progress though. Reynolds then asks Jackman, who is seen walking behind him, if he wants to play his character in MCU to which the actor responds, "Yes, sure, Ryan."

We then see the Deadpool logo being merged with Wolverine's claws, and there is no surprise fans are jubilated about the announcement. The video, posted by Ryan, is nearing a million likes on Twitter and has surpassed two million likes on Instagram, clearly serving as a metric for the hype surrounding Wolverine's return.

Jackman was last seen as the character in the 2017's acclaimed James Mangold directorial, Logan. There have been references to his character and the other X-men in the two Deadpool films as well.

The film is set to release in theatres on September 6, 2024.
