A new Cloverfield film is officially in the works

Paramount Pictures has just announced that they are moving ahead with a new Cloverfield film. They have reportedly roped in director Babak Anvari to helm the project. The film will be based on a story and script written by Joe Barton. The Cloverfield franchise kick-started with 2008 found footage film directed by Matt Reeves. The film received critical praise for reinventing the alien invasion and found footage genres.

JJ Abrams, known for hit films like Star Trek and Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be producing the film under his Bad Robot Productions along with Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen. The film will also be executive produced by Bryan Burk, Matt Reeves, and Drew Goddard. The announcement follows hot on the heels of their Top Gun Maverick and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 success.

The upcoming film will be director Babak Anvari’s first film under a major production company and with a big budget. He had previously won the Best Debut Director Award at BAFTA for his 2018 film Under the Shadow.
