Doctor Who to stream on Disney+ from 2023

CE Features

Doctor Who, the iconic British sci-fi series,  will now stream on Disney+ outside of the UK, where it will continue to stream on the BBC network. All new episodes will simultaneously release on BBC and Disney+ at the same time starting in 2023. The news was revealed by Ncuti Gatwa, who plays the 15th incarnation of the titular character, in a recent interview promoting the upcoming season.

The new deal, forged between BBC and Disney Branded Entertainment, will take effect from November 2023, to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the series, when three specials are also planned. The sci-fi series will enter its 14th season next year.

Ncuti Gatwa will take over the character from Jodie Whittaker, who became the first woman to portray the character by playing the thirteenth Doctor. After first appearing in the eleventh season, she will leave the series after the 13th season and its associated specials. She made her final appearance in the episode titled Power of the Doctor, which aired last Sunday. In an unusual move, David Tennant, who played the tenth doctor, will regenerate as the fourteenth doctor before passing on the mantle to Ncuti Gatwa’s fifteenth doctor. David Tennant played the Doctor from 2006 to 2010 before being succeeded by Matt Smith.
