Michael Dougherty, who is attached to direct a sequel to the 2007 film Trick 'r Treat, has confirmed that the sequel is still in development. The filmmaker also directed the original film. The director confirmed the news following no updates about the film for a long time, raising speculations that the sequel might have been dropped.

The director recently made Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which was a sequel to the 2014 Godzilla. He is also best known for directing the 2015 horror comedy Krampus. The horror-thriller anthology film stars Dylan Baker, Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin, and Brian Cox.

Even though the original film had an uneventful theatrical run upon its release in 2007, it later picked up steam due to DVD sales and became a cult classic. The director has not revealed the premise for the sequel, it is speculated that the sequel could also be an anthology like the first film.
