Carlos López Estrada, known for directing the Disney animated film Raya and the Last Dragon, has been roped in to direct the live-action adaptation of Your Name.

Your Name, known as Kimi No Na Wa in Japanese, is an anime film written and directed by the critically acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Makoto Shinkai.

The romantic fantasy film tells the tale of a young boy and a girl who accidentally swap bodies at regular intervals and end up falling in love. Following the phenomenal reception in Japan, the film was subsequently dubbed into English and was released all over the world to become a huge box office success.

Paramount Pictures, along with JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Production and Toho Company are currently working on rewriting the live-action version of the popular anime film. It was earlier announced that Academy Award-nominated writer Eric Heisserer (Arrival, BirdBox) was working on the screenplay for the live-action adaptation while it has now been confirmed that  López Estrada will rewrite the screenplay from Heisserer’s earlier version.

Carlos López Estrada, who started his career directing music videos, made his feature film debut with the comedy-drama Blindspotting in 2018. He was nominated for an Academy Award for directing Raya and the Last Dragon. He is currently working on a feature length animated documentary along with a live action adaptation of the 1973 Disney animated film Robin Hood.
