Dan Stevens on board Godzilla vs. Kong follow-up film

Filmmaker Adam Wingard returns to helm the project which will begin production later this year in Australia

Actor Dan Stevens has joined the cast of filmmaker Adam Wingard's follow-up film to his recent Monsterverse hit Godzilla vs. Kong.

Stevens is reported as the first actor to join the cast. Details of the plot and Steven's character are currently kept under wraps.

Godzilla vs. Kong had Kong clash with Godzilla as humans lure the ape into the Hollow Earth to retrieve a power source for a secret weapon to stop Godzilla's mysterious rampages.

The film featured an ensemble cast that included Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Eiza Gonzalez, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler and Demian Bichir. The film earned over USD 468 million worldwide.

The 2021 film was the fourth instalment in the Monsterverse franchises after Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019).

The filming of the new movie will begin later this year in Australia.
