Actors Tilda Cobham-Hervey and Stephen Graham will star opposite Daisy Ridley in the upcoming Disney film Young Woman and the Sea.

Written by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film is set to be directed by Joachim Ronning. Based on a book by Glenn Stout, the film chronicles the daring journey of Gertrude Ederle a.k.a Trudy (Ridley), the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel in 1926. The daughter of a German butcher from Manhattan, Ederle was a competitive swimmer who won gold in the 1924 Olympics when she decided to attempt crossing the channel.

She undertook the feat after first swimming 22 miles from Battery Park in New York to Sandy Hook, New Jersey, setting a record that stood for 81 years. She contracted with two newspapers and sold her story, thereby financing her quest.

Cobham-Hervey will play the role of Ederle's sister. Details of Graham's role remain unknown. Young Woman and the Sea will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. The film will premiere on Disney+

Cobham-Hervey is coming off her critically-acclaimed role in I Am Woman. Her other recent credits include Hotel Mumbai and Burn. Graham is best known for his roles in Boardwalk Empire and Peaky Blinders. He was most recently seen in Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Greyhound.
