Chris Pratt puts an end to Indiana Jones recasting rumours

Chris Pratt shuts down rumours of him taking up the mantle of Indiana Jones after Harrison Ford. The Jurassic World actor addressed the rumours in a podcast appearance where he said it was never going to happen. His blockbuster success with Guardians of the Galaxy coincided with the news of Harrison Ford retiring from his iconic Indiana Jones role. Fans quickly started fan casting Chris Pratt for a possible revival of the Indiana Jones franchise. It was once speculated that Chris Pratt might play a young Indiana Jones, taking the character back to its pre World War 2 roots. 

In the podcast appearance, Chris Pratt joked around the question for a while before getting serious. He recalled Harrison Ford’s interview where the veteran actor addressed the rumours about the future of the franchise by saying ‘When I die, Indiana Jones dies.’ Quoting Harrison Ford’s answer Chris Pratt said that answer scared him and went on to say “And I’m like, am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play?

A fifth Indiana Jones film is currently under production with an 80 year old Harrison Ford returning to play the globe-trotting, adventurous, archeologist. Composer John Williams has confirmed his retirement from composing music for films after Indy 5–Harrison Ford may be following him into retirement as well. James Mangold, known for giving a proper send-off to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine with Logan is brought on to direct Indy 5. This is the first film in the franchise to not be directed by Steven Spielberg. Indiana Jones 5 currently has a release date of 30 June 2023.
